The Architecture Green Building Committee of the Jordanian Engineers Association organized a scientific visit to the Eco-Friendly Mud House located within the campus of University of Petra. The committee consisted of fifty specialized engineers and architects in the field of green buildings and sustainability.
The visit was led by the head of the Architectural Division at the Jordanian Engineers Association, Engineer Emad Al-Dabbas, and the Chairwoman of the Architectural Green Building Committee, Architecture Hiba Al Nazer. The main purpose of the visit was to learn about University of Petra's research experience related to environmentally friendly building materials, highlight various construction methods, and showcase innovative and pioneering projects in the field of sustainable architecture.
The research team from University of Petra, comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Dr. Amer Al-Jokhadar, and the Dean's assistant, Engineer Yasmine Al-Soudi, presented the sustainability strategies implemented on the campus at University of Petra. In 2022, the university was ranked 268th in the world according to the Green Metric ranking.
The visit included a detailed explanation of the mud house construction process, including materials selection and structural inspections. Environmental measurements demonstrated that the building maintains thermal comfort throughout the year. Successful international examples of mud buildings and their applications in regions with a climate similar to Jordan and the Middle East were also presented. Guests had the opportunity to tour the university campus and the Faculty of Architecture and Design Exhibition.
This visit is considered a step towards raising awareness about the importance of eco-friendly buildings and providing sources of inspiration for engineers and architects to contribute to a more sustainable future for Jordan's infrastructure.
